Applicant/Hiring FAQs

When I submit my application, who receives it?
All applications are initially screened by our Human Resources Department.

Can I fax or mail my application?
All applications must be submitted online. Due to the number of employment inquiries, the Human Resources Department is unable to accept walk-in candidates. Please follow the online process to apply for a position.

What happens after I submit my résumé? How long will it take to review?
Due to the high volume of résumés received, we cannot personally respond to individual inquiries. However, if your skills, knowledge and level of desired experience match our requirements, you will be contacted for an interview.

If I’m selected for an interview, what can I expect?
Job candidates are initially scheduled for a pre-screening interview by phone. This usually lasts 30 minutes. Depending on the pre-screen, the candidate will be forwarded to the hiring manager for a second interview in person.

What can I expect during a pre-screening interview?

Since FBCG is a house of worship, you will be asked a series of questions to not only assess your professional work experience but also your spiritual maturity. This may include determining your Spirit-Controlled Temperament. If you don’t know your temperament, which is a combination of inborn traits that subconsciously affect our behavior, “Spirit-Controlled Temperament” by Tim LaHaye is an excellent resource. There are also tests available online to help identify your temperament.

Secondly, do you know your gifts of the Holy Spirit? Everyone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior receives spiritual gifts. The gifts are to be used to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, which is the body of Christ. Here are some scripture references: Eph. 4:11-12, Rom. 12:6-8, 1 Cor. 12:4-12 and Heb. 2:4. The Institutes offers a class on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, in addition to materials available in the FBCG Media Center.

Does your life reflect the Fruit of the Spirit? When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce the Fruit of the Spirit in us: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Read more about the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-26.

First Baptist Church of Glenarden International uses a character-based performance evaluation model. Character is the real you! The Bible refers to it as “the hidden person of the heart” (1 Peter 3:4). Character combines your temperament, training, moral values, beliefs and habit patterns. It is sometimes referred to as “the soul” of a person, which is made up of the mind, emotions and will. View the full listing of character traits that FBCG staff embodies.

If I become a staff member of FBCG, what would my work schedule typically look like?

Work hours vary depending on the nature of jobs. While normal business hours are 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, shift work and weekend responsibilities vary from position to position.

Please do not contact the Human Resources Department with questions about the Employment Ministry as they are two separate entities. Thanks for your cooperation.
