carekit collection

On Saturday, July 15, the FBCG Missions Department will kick off our Missions Day of Service, in which all FBCG members and friends are asked to drop off donations for care packages for the homeless and/or complete notes of encouragement for our South Africa partner, Orchard Africa.

Saturday, July 8

Care Kit Collection
9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Worship Center

FBCG Members and friends are asked to drop off the following items:

1. Items needed to assemble care packages to distribute to the homeless. All items must be NEW. Our goal is to collect 5,000 of each of the following items:

  • Socks

  • Lightweight washcloths

  • Small bars of soap

  • Individual face masks

  • Individual hand sanitizer

  • Toothbrushes

  • Travel toothpaste

  • Travel size deodorant

  • Dental floss

  • Gallon-size Ziploc bags

2. Notes of encouragement to South African pastors and their families and to men and women in leadership in South Africa with our new partner, Orchard Africa. Our goal is to write 3,000 notes of encouragement.

  • Guidelines

You can write as many notes as you desire, using the following guidelines:

    • While envelopes are not required, if you place your notes in them, they should be unsealed.

    • On the outside of the envelope, indicate whether the note is for pastors and their families or men or women in leadership.

    • Notes are not letters but much shorter. You should not exceed a 5×7 sheet of paper or card. If you are using paper, DO NOT fold them.

    • Notes should be handwritten in print, not cursive. It’s easier for those who may not speak English as their native language to read print.

    • Handwritten notes are special; they speak to time, energy, love and care. They speak to the heart in ways typed notes do not.

    • Handwritten notes are treasures to the receiver and may be saved in a keepsake box and read over and over.

    The Greeting

    • The greeting should be relational. It should connect the two hearts, be emotional and use positive emotions (warm, passionate, etc.).

      • Dear Brother or Sister

      • Greetings my Sister or Brother

      • Mighty Woman of God

      • Mighty Man of God

    The Content

    • Write from the heart. Even the simplest sentences will uplift those who read your note.

    • You want your content to be short but impactful. Remember, you want to connect the recipient’s heart to your heart. You want the person to treasure your notes.

    • If you are new to writing notes, try some of the following:

      • I’m thinking of you today.

      • I pray that you have a good day.

      • I said a prayer for you today.

      • Warm wishes for you today.

    • Scripture references should be short or nuggets.

    • When you refer to yourself, only use your first name.

    • DO NOT share your personal or identifying information.

    • DO NOT make any promises personally or on behalf of the ministry or the church.

    The Closing

    • Your Brother or Sister in Christ

    • From my heart to your heart

    • With the love of Jesus

    • Until . . . .

    • Sincerely

    Signature

    • First name ONLY

    • Use your initials

    • DO NOT use titles

If you’re located outside the DMV area:
