Dr. Rovenia Brock – “Dr. Ro” was known as America’s nutrition coach on Dr. Oz where she served on the show’s medical advisory board for seven years. As a regular contributor to the Today Show, GMA, CBS This Morning and National Public Radio (NPR), to date, she has helped over 1.5 million people lose more than six million pounds. She is most widely known as host of Heart and Soul (BET), the first national network health and fitness television show for Black women.
As the go-to nutrition coach for Fortune 500 companies, Dr. Ro has established a brand of integrity, honor, genuine care and results for the women and families she serves.
Dr. Ro is also host of the Dr. Ro On Demand podcast and coaches women in their prime through the maze of weight loss, curbing sugar cravings, overcoming emotional eating, and a myriad of life challenges.
James M. Brown, MD, is associate professor of surgery with the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). He specializes in heart, vascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Maryland Capitol Region Health Center.
Led by Dr. Brown, the cardiac program at the hospital was rebuilt from the ground up to bring enhanced cardiac care to the residents of Prince George’s and surrounding counties. The cardiac surgery program at UMD Capital Region Health Center has received training with one of the nation’s best cardiac surgery programs, and an exciting new model of care is delivering superior outcomes to county residents. This program is in the top 10 percent of coronary bypass surgery in the nation.
With heart disease being the number one cause of death in Prince George’s County, the work his team is doing has significantly improved health outcomes in the community.
Dr. Jimmie Drummond has served more than 20 years in family and public health practice in underserved urban areas with significant health disparities. He is experienced in healthcare administration as an executive and chief medical officer and has held several high level clinical managerial positions in various health care settings. Dr. Drummond received his medical degree from Howard University, a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University and he completed an Occupational and Environmental Residency at the University of Pennsylvania.
As a commissioned officer, active reservist and Iraqi war veteran with advanced training in aerospace medicine, Dr. Drummond currently serves DiLorenzo TriCare Clinic, Pentagon Occupational Health, as an occupational medicine physician for over 23,000 civilian and government employees in all areas of employee health.
His professional interest includes preventive and occupational medicine; health services research and medical utilization review.
Yolandra Hancock is a mom, physician, and public health shero who combines her hands-on clinical experience and public health expertise with her passion for building vibrant communities to provide patient-empowered best in class care and community empowerment. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from UCLA, her medical doctorate from the UCLA School of Medicine, and her Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is a professor at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University, founder of Delta Health and Wellness Consulting, and a consultant to the Prince George’s County Council’s Board of Health. In all the work that she does as a physician, professor, and public health champion, Dr. Hancock is fully committed to dismantling health inequities and raising up the next generation to reach their full health potential.
Dr. Michelle Gourdine is chief medical officer (interim) and senior vice president of Population Health and Primary Care for the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). She works in collaboration with other colleagues across the health system’s 13 hospitals to advance patient safety, quality, and patient experience while leading the development of an integrated, systemwide population health strategy to advance the health and improve the quality of life for the patients and communities.
Additionally, Dr. Gourdine is clinical assistant professor in the Departments of Epidemiology, Preventive Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and a senior associate in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
With a career in medicine and public health leadership spanning over 20 years, her leadership responsibilities include implementing healthcare services, public health policy, regulations, legislative initiatives, and developing strategies to reduce health disparities.
Dr. Georgina Agyekum Manzano is a public health professional by training and holds a doctorate in public health from UCLA. She is also the Health Center Director at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, recently tasked with spearheading the COVID-19 vaccination efforts in partnership with the University of Maryland Capital Region. She is passionate about encouraging others to live a healthy lifestyle which includes watching what you eat and staying active. She is a big believer that health is wealth!
Adam I. Riker, MD, is the chair of Oncology at Anne Arundel Medical Center’s (AAMC), Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute (DCI). Dr. Riker is board-certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained as a surgical oncologist. His clinical specialty is focused on patients with breast cancer, sarcoma, melanoma, and non-melanoma skin cancers. He has participated in various clinical trials and has presented his research findings at numerous scientific meetings, both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Riker is widely published with over 150 peer-reviewed publications, and has written two educational textbooks. He is currently working on his third book, which will highlight the importance of living a healthy lifestyle through optimal nutrition as the ultimate way to fight, prevent and even reverse disease including diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer.
Dr. Riker is also passionate about getting to know the communities that we live in, providing free community outreach events, educational seminars, and presentations.
Dr. Billina R. Shaw is currently the medical director of Mental Health Services at the Prince George’s County Health Department. She is a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. At the Health Department, she works at the Behavioral Health clinic providing mental health and addictions treatment. Dr. Shaw attended Yale University for her undergraduate studies. She graduated with distinction in psychology while completing her premedical studies, and then attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In 2007, she moved to Baltimore for her General Adult Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt where she served as chief resident of the Psychiatric Emergency Services and Chief Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Ambulatory Services Fellow.
Dr. Shaw has been the ministry head for the Health Ministry at her local church and serves on the board of a prison prevention non-profit.
Dr. Mark D. Tyler-Lloyd received his bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College and a master’s degree in Public Health, from New York Medical College. Following graduate school, he completed a doctorate in medicine from Upstate Medical Center in New York and after finishing an internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and Primary care, he began a career in academic medicine focusing, at first, on curriculum and content development, and later in teaching physicians-in-training on topics related to behavioral science, psychiatry, neurology, medical ethics, and preventive medicine.
Dr. Tyler-Lloyd is the editor of the book, The Real Life of an Internist, an anthology featuring first-person narratives from students and doctors studying internal medicine at every stage of their careers.
As a member of the FBCG Healing Transitions and Bereavement Ministry, he has written articles capturing scientific and spiritual perspectives related to end-of-life transitioning, grieving, and the science of healing.
Joseph L. Wright, MD, MPH is senior vice president and chief medical officer of Capital Region Health within the University of Maryland Medical System. He previously served as professor and chair of pediatrics at the Howard University College of Medicine, and as senior vice president within the Children’s National Health System, where he provided strategic leadership for the organization’s advocacy mission, public policy positions, and community partnership initiatives.
He maintains appointments as adjunct professor of emergency medicine and health policy at the George Washington University, and is adjunct professor of Health Policy and Management at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. He served 17 years as the state pediatric medical director within the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, in addition to eight years as principal investigator of the federally funded EMS for Children National Resource Center.
