This session is designed to help high school juniors and seniors understand the steps (checklist) needed to select and get into the college of their choosing. Session topics include understanding their purpose and passion, choosing the right college, and the process to get into college.

This session is designed to help parents understand the preparation steps and the requirements to get into college.

Student Panel Discussion
This session offers students transparent insight from current college students and recent graduates about their experiences and strategies for college success. They will share information about the steps they took for their unique paths.
Parent Panel Discussion
This session offers knowledge and insight about how other parents financed education, navigated the process, and managed the emotions of applying to schools. Parents will also gain a greater understanding of the resources available to students in college.

Financial Security
This session provides students and parents with a basic understanding of college financial acumen and financial processes. Topics may include FAFSA, “How To’s” that lead to a debt-free degree including, doing your part, and what you need to know to be empowered to have a debt-free education.

Jeff & Nicole Barnett have experienced the college admissions journey with three children. Karis (24) recently completed graduate school at the University of Michigan, Naomi (21) is currently a senior at Towson University, and Joy (19) is a freshman at Stevenson University. The Barnetts encourage parents to partner with their children to ensure they are "buying into" the college application process, as well as trusting God to guide their paths.
Professionally, Jeff is a Branch Chief with the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and Nicole is a clinical social worker with the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline. Jeff & Nicole enjoy serving at FBCG together as deacon and deaconess, as well as facilitators with the Couples Focus Studies Ministry.
Olivia has over 20 years of experience in public education and currently serves as the College Readiness Supervisor for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS). She manages the dual enrollment program and college access programming for high school seniors. Her programs include the groundbreaking 3D Scholars program, where students are able to earn a bachelor’s degree for $10,000 or less and College Application Night where hundreds of students are able to receive onsite college admissions and millions of dollars in scholarship funds in one evening. During her tenure in PGCPS, she has served in multiple capacities as a teacher, department chair, STEM program coordinator, curriculum writer, and has led district programs such as International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, Science and Technology, AVID and SAT.
Olivia received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Virginia and a Master’s degree from the University of Maryland College Park. She has also obtained graduate certificates in education from Johns Hopkins and George Washington Universities. Olivia is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland College Park in School System Leadership. Olivia has been nominated and received awards for both her mentorship and community partnership with FIRST Robotics and the National Society of Black Engineers and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Her hobbies include reading and cooking for her family.
Dr. Ashley A Adams-Culbreath, is a senior level administrator with a progressive record of more than 15 years of experience as an academic and student affairs professional with expertise in providing vision, leadership and direction in high impact student engagement programs and services that support student retention and graduation. She currently serves as the Senior Director of Life Design at Johns Hopkins University, where she leads a team of team of life design educators supporting thousands of students in pursuing their life’s purpose at Johns Hopkins and beyond, with a particular focus on equity, inclusion, and advocacy in the support of first generation and limited income students. Dr. Adams-Culbreath is a graduate of Truman State University (BS in Sociology), DePaul University (MA in Sociology) and St. Louis University (Ph. D. in Educational Leadership). Dr. Adams is the proud wife of André Culbreath and active member of her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
