Through dramatic scenes, stunning visuals and stirring vocal performances, the original stage play “Witnesses to the Cross” gives audiences a vivid and moving portrayal of Christ’s passion-filled journey to the cross – seen through the eyes of the
biblical characters who witnessed the miracles of His life and the sacrifice of His death.

With its universal themes of love, acceptance and redemption, “Witnesses to the Cross” is a story for all. This year audiences can look forward to new scenes, a smaller cast featuring new characters and a performance by Stellar Award-winning guest artist Bishop Jason Nelson!

Bishop Jason Nelson pastors the Greater Bethlehem Temple Church, a thriving ministry in Randallstown, MD. However, he is one of the most recognized voices in gospel music and is considered to possess a rare gift in the Body of Christ as he releases the power of the presence of God. Jason established his vocal status and exceptional anointing in 2005 with the release of his first solo project, “I Shall Live.” Not only a gifted voice but a gifted songwriter, the songs written for this project propelled Jason onto the industry watch list. Marvin Sapp’s title track to the platinum recording “Thirsty” was composed by Jason. The highly anticipated “Shifting the Atmosphere” project, which was released May 22, 2013, gives insight to its audience with the application of praise and worship. Jason has also received a Stellar Award for Praise and Worship CD of theYear in 2013. Jason considers one of his greatest accomplishments to be his family: wife Tonya and children Jaelyn and Jason Christopher.

Joshua Jenkins serves as director of First Baptist Church of Glenarden’s Drama Ministry and Young Adult Ministry. He is a graduate of Bowie State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Theater. Joshua is a former officer of the Prince George’s County Police Department, where he served for seven years, and has been making his wave as a playwright, director, spoken word artist and preacher for the last 13 years.

Joshua has worked with and directed with many icons in the gospel realm such as Kim Burrell, Isaac Carree, Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper, Sheri Jones-Moffett, The Walls Group, Anthony Brown, Y’Anna Crawley, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard and many other notable artists. Additionally, his work has been featured on the Stellar Gospel Music Awards show and across the country.

As a social-entrepreneur, Joshua is a motivational speaker committed to empowering people through creative arts. He is married to his beautiful wife Danielle and has two sons.

There will be two free showings of “Witnesses to the Cross.” Join us Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m., or Saturday, April 20, at noon. Both performances will be held at First Baptist Church of Glenarden’s Worship Center, 600 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD.

No tickets are required for admission to “Witnesses to the Cross.” Grab your friends and family and come enjoy a moving depiction of the greatest love story ever told.

The play was written for all ages. However, it does explore themes of betrayal and death that may be challenging for young children. Parents should use discretion based on their own comfort level and be prepared to have discussions with their children following the production.

The closest Metrorail stations to First Baptist Church of Glenarden are New Carrollton and Largo Town Center. Additional information about shuttle service from the stations to the church will be provided in the near future.
